Transportation back on “front burner”

October 21st, 2008 · No Comments

The Nashua Telegraph has published an editorial entitled “Innovation driving mass transit plans“. Here is an exerpt:

Gov. John Lynch said last week that it may be some years before the system is up and running, but progress is being made. The cost to the state for the rail extension could be around $70 million, and add another $100 million if the Nashua-to-Manchester segment is eventually built.

Off the rails and on the road, the Boston Express bus line connecting Nashua to Boston is running ahead of expectations after 20 months in service. The company had hoped to attract 10,000 monthly riders and instead hit 12,000 in August.

Out on the Seacoast, the Downeaster train, which runs from Maine, through New Hampshire and into Boston, has seen a 28 percent increase in passengers in 2008. Earlier this year, the line hit more than 40,000 riders for the month, and several of the rush-hours trains have been running at near capacity.

It’s nice to see that mass transit is, as the Telegraph says “front burner of New Hampshire”. These editorials usually spawn about a dozen comments, all of which are interesting to read. Click here to check out the rest of the article.
